At 20.45 tonight, the seriousness starts again for Haaland and co. MSV Duisburg from level three is the opponent in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, which is equivalent to the Norwegian cup.
And coach Lucien Favre gives a clear message:
– We will win the cup. It does not help to get to the second or third round, if we break out. At best, the match against MSV Duisburg is the first of a total of six victories in the cup, says Favre, according to Dortmund’s website.
And now it goes hand in hand: This weekend the Bundesliga begins. Borussia Dortmund will host Borussia Mönchengladbach at 6.30 pm on Saturday. And the team is already ready for the group stage in the Champions League.

The problem?
In recent years, Dortmund have ended up in the shadow of Bayern Munich. The previous series gold came in 2012. The previous cup gold was won in 2017. The team won the German Super Cup in 2019, but it is nowhere near having the same status.
– I do not think it will be easy this season either, says former Bundesliga player Jørn Andersen to Dagbladet.
– If they manage to keep Jadon Sancho, they will be a challenger. But after what happened last season – where Bayern won three titles – I have a hard time believing it.
The truth is that Dortmund are desperate to take gold again. Although the team in isolation did well last season, with silver in the Bundesliga and round of 16 in the Champions League, there was still speculation about coach Lucien Favre (62). Finally, sports director Michael Zorc stepped out and stopped the speculation:
– We enter the new season with the same constellation and continue to push.
But this summer’s big signing is Bayern Munich who have done. Winger Leroy Sane (24) comes from Manchester City. According to the major newspaper Bild, it cost 50 million euros, or 535 million kroner.

– Dortmund is always looking for a title and will win the Bundesliga, Andersen points out.
– They want to do it again. I hear the management say that they will attack and challenge Bayern. It is a young team with good players. But they do not have the same conditions as Bayern.
Dortmund has also made changes to the stable. Among other things, the great talent Jude Bellingham (17) is brought from Birmingham. Dortmund is known for giving young boys the chance and developing them into top class players.
– I like how Jude handles the ball and manages to hold it. He has many tactical options. The presence is fantastic, says coach Favre about the midfielder.
From a Norwegian perspective, there are massive expectations for Haaland. Last season he scored 44 goals for Red Bull Salzburg and Dortmund. Now he comes from a national team gathering with Norway where he scored three times against Austria and Northern Ireland.
– You have to rub your eyes, says the national team’s assistant coach, Per Joar Hansen, to Dagbladet.
– He’s 20 years old. It’s just to enjoy what he has done in the Bundesliga. And against Northern Ireland he scored two great goals.
– How does he handle all the big words?
– Extremely good. He is a person without whims and complacency. He loves to play football and score goals.
Among those who have thrown themselves into the wave of impressive voices is Northern Ireland coach Ian Baraclough.
When Dagbladet met him after Norway’s 5-1 victory over Northern Ireland last Monday, it was sensational to witness how he bragged about the Norwegian.

About Haaland, Baraclough says:
– He has speed and strength. He has a left foot and he has a right foot. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona would happily have his signature. He will not go for less than 100 million pounds (1.2 billion kroner). It is tough to be a coach for the opposing team with such a player. But at the other end of the spectrum, you just have to applaud what he does.
Haaland has a contract with Dortmund until June 30, 2024. Can he shoot the team for a title?
