Victims have filed a class action suit regarding the detection of environmental hormones over 600 times the standard in baby bathtubs sold by Asung Daiso (hereinafter referred to as Daiso).

A total of 3,000 people, including 1,000 infant victims of’Daiso Baby Bathtub’ and co-parents, sued Daehyun Chemical Industries, a bathtub manufacturer, and Kihyeon Industries, an intermediate distributor, to the Dongjak Police Station in Seoul on charges of violating the Special Child Product Safety Act. Victims also sued Coupang and 11th Street, which sold the product until the 24th of the same month, on charges of’violation of the Special Child Product Safety Act’ and’fraud’ despite the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy issued a collection order on December 10 last year. .

They reported to the Fair Trade Commission as’false or exaggerated labeling’ against Daehyun Chemical Industry and Kihyun Industry, and also submitted an application for collective dispute mediation to the Korea Consumer Agency.

Lee Seung-ik, attorney at Daejeon Ajou Law Firm, who represents the lawsuit recruited by the joint lawsuit platform’Angry People’, said, “As a father who bathed his child in this bathtub every day, we are going to file a lawsuit on behalf of 3,000 parents.” He added, “This case revealed a loophole in the KC certification system.”

Daiso, which was the main seller of the angry people, was excluded from the complaint. Lee said, “It was difficult to hold Daiso legally responsible for the deception of Daehyun Chemical Industry and Kihyun Industry. While other vendors delayed responding to the recall order from the Ministry of Industry, Daiso responded immediately.” As other victims have filed a complaint with Daiso, the case will be merged and an investigation into Daiso will proceed.”

Earlier, the National Institute of Technology and Standards of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy issued a recall order saying that in December last year, a phthalate plasticizer, an environmental hormone, was detected in the baby bath’Cosma’ manufactured by Daehyun Chemical Industries, exceeding 612.5 times the safety standard. Phthalate plasticizers are harmful chemicals that can cause liver damage and poor reproductive function.

The product was sold for 5,000 won by Daiso as a “sink baby bathtub”. Because of its good cost performance, it was popular enough to be used as a’national baby bath’ in mom cafes.

Prior to the suspicion of the angry people, in December last year, 520 consumers through Gongmyeong Law Firm, violated the special law for children’s product safety, violated the law on fairness of label advertisements, fraud, and business He filed a complaint with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office for injuries of negligence.

In response to this, Daiso said, “We are fully aware of our responsibility as a seller. We sincerely apologize for being afflicted with product defects,” and said, “We will do our best to prevent damage to consumers by proceeding with refund measures as soon as possible.”
