Civilization VII Patch 1.2.3: New Features & Changes

Firaxis Games has announced a new update for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, introducing notable changes to in-game notifications and the passage of eras. The update aims to refine the player experience based on community feedback.

Director Notifications Overhauled: the game’s councilor notifications, which appear as pop-ups for military, economic, scientific, or cultural advisors, are receiving their first cycle of changes. These notifications, which inform players about events like other civilizations building wonders or overflowing treasuries, have been adjusted to address issues where they appeared too frequently or at inappropriate times. For example, a notification about nuclear weapon availability appearing on a bomber has been cited as an instance requiring correction.

Era Transition Settings Updated: A new advanced game setting has been added to modify how eras transition. This new default setting is named “continuity,” while the previous transition behavior is now referred to as “grouping.”

“Continuity” Setting Details: With the “continuity” setting active, players can expect the following:

  • units can be upgraded in their current location rather than being regrouped within the empire.
  • Units located in another civilization’s territory will be expelled, similar to losing open borders, but will remain in proximity.
  • Specific unit types will now transfer between eras: ships and siege units will move from Antiquity to Exploration, alongside settlers, migrants, explorers, and merchants across all eras.

These adjustments are part of Firaxis’ ongoing efforts to enhance Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, with the update available for download.
