Cirebon City KPA Invites to Unload the HIV/AIDS Iceberg Phenomenon

KOTA CIREBON, SC- The AIDS Control Commission (KPA) of Cirebon City continues to work to dismantle the iceberg phenomenon of the number of people infected with the disease for which a cure has not been found. Related to this, the Cirebon City KPA invites all cross-sectors to dismantle the iceberg phenomenon, so that the spread of the disease can be controlled.

The secretary of the Cirebon City KPA, Sri Maryati, said that the findings of the increasing number of cases were in order to end the epidemic in 2030.

“How do we dismantle all the icebergs below, so that the case is found more,” Sri told reporters after commemorating World AIDS Day at the DKIS office in Cirebon City, Wednesday (1/12/2021).

According to Sri, cases of HIV/AIDS transmission in Cirebon City have been quite high in the last two years. Both to key populations and to populations that are vulnerable to HIV transmission.

“When it comes to background, it is dominated by sexual relations or risky behavior related to sexual relations,” he said.

Sri said, after being exposed to HIV was very varied, namely from the age of 19 to 45 years. KPA also found that in 2020, as many as 324 residents of Cirebon City were recorded as People With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and in 2021 until October there were 214 new PLWHA cases.

According to Sri, the findings of hundreds of cases of PLWHA in Cirebon City are clear evidence of the work of the KPA and the Cirebon City Government to continue to suppress the spread of HIV/AIDS.

“For those who have tested positive, we want to keep them taking their medication regularly and obediently. Of course, for those who are not yet positive for HIV/AIDS, we will continue to prevent them from getting infected by conducting counseling and forming cadres in each kelurahan,” he said.

“We involve several companies to actively participate in preventing HIV/AIDS. We will also conduct tests to several agencies,” he concluded. (Surya)
