The Minister of Education, Sorin Cîmpeanu, made some clarifications in the context of the opening of the new school year.

Sorin Cîmpeanu declared, on Sunday afternoon, that ‘parents can participate in festivities but, depending on the specific conditions of each school (dimensions of open spaces) it is recommended, more or less pressed, to avoid as much as possible the presence parents with students or at least not both parents come.’

Sorin Cîmpeanu then specified that “each school has specific conditions, the principal of each school has the duty to announce to the parents how much he can allow their access.”

The Minister of Education, Sorin Cîmpeanu, declared, on Sunday, at a meeting with the parents of the students from Ferdinand School from the Capital that there were 253 schools that had problems from the perspective of ensuring the sanitary protection conditions, but for the most part they were remedied.

Sorin Cîmpeanu said that there are ‘some infrastructure problems’ in some schools.

‘We had 253 schools that had problems from the perspective of ensuring the conditions of sanitary protection, 37 in Dolj, in Bucharest 28. (…) Last week the problems were identified through on-site visits and (…) in the largest part of the situations have been remedied ‘, said Minister Sorin Cîmpeanu.

The structure of the school year 2021-2022

The school year 2021-2022 begins on September 13, 2021 for students and ends on June 11, 2022, is 34 weeks old, according to Ministerial Order no. 3,243 of February 5, 2021. It is divided into two semesters and three vacations, of which two for all students, plus one vacation for primary school students and kindergarten children, being one of the shortest school years in recent history.

Semester I: 14 weeks of courses, arranged between September 13, 2021 – December 22, 2021.

Second semester: 20 weeks of courses, arranged between January 10, 2022 – June 10, 2022, including the “School Otherwise” program between April 8 and 14, during which the national phases of the school Olympics can be organized.

Student vacations are scheduled as follows:

October 25 – 31, 2021: holiday for preschool and primary education;

December 23, 2021 – January 9, 2022: winter vacation;

April 15, 2022 – May 1, 2022: spring break.
