The package also includes the usual frightening photos and warning texts. Furthermore, there is only the name of the manufacturer and information about the type of cigarette in a standard font. For example, the smoking material is no longer an advertising product, according to the Ministry of Health.
Sell out stock
Retailers are still allowed to sell out their old stock, but all newly delivered cigarettes and rolling tobacco must be provided with the green-brown packaging.

The introduction of this neutral packaging is part of the National Prevention Agreement. The aim is that adults will smoke less and children who are now born will not start.
‘Making smoking as unattractive as possible’
“In the Netherlands, 75 young people under the age of 18 still start smoking every day. Apparently there is something that they find attractive about smoking despite all the health risks and warnings. That is why I will continue to do everything I can to make smoking as unattractive as possible”, says State Secretary Paul Blokhuis .
