Church – Darmstadt – Church President Jung calls for peaceful coexistence – Panorama

Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – The President of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN), Volker Jung, called for more commitment to peaceful coexistence during the Corona crisis and also included the disputes in the Dannenröder Forest. “Especially this year, the nerves of many are on edge,” said Jung on the first Sunday of Advent at a service in Frankfurt’s Katharinenkirche, according to the announcement. In a pandemic, however, it is important not to lose patience. It is also part of being human “to be there for one another in a good sense and to protect one another at the same time”.

It is important “not to declare your own view of the world to be the only truth,” said Jung, referring to the corona deniers. This prevents a way to balance and reconciliation. “Peace does not come from denying reality.” At the same time, this does not exclude the possibility that different views and opinions can be represented and peacefully exchanged.

Commenting on the violent clashes surrounding the expansion of Autobahn 49 in Dannenröd in Central Hesse, Jung said: “You can only call out to the demonstrators: No threats and no violence against police officers.” He asked the police: “Be careful! Maintain proportionality!” And he urged politics: “Think about what you can do so that people can find each other again.” The EKHN area extends to parts of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate.
