On the 7th, Governor Kim Yeong-hwan of North Chungcheong Province posted an article and video titled “I am willing to become a pro-Japanese today” on his SNS.

In this article, Governor Kim defended the government’s solution to compensating victims of forced labor, saying that he would be willing to drink the cup of humiliation of Samjeon-do.

After the article was posted, local civic groups issued statements condemning Governor Kim’s remarks, and the Democratic Party of Korea demanded an apology from the local people.

Regarding this, Governor Kim argued that the overall context was not at all like that, and that ‘pro-Japanese’ was just an ironic expression.

As criticism continued day after day, Governor Kim apologized to local residents, saying that he was responsible for causing trouble with his remarks.

He added that it was an emphasis on patriotism and loyalty that came from a sense of urgency that compensation for the damages caused by forced labor should not be delayed any longer, but it caused a lot of controversy.

Governor Kim Young-hwan, who was at the center of controversy every day for his pro-Japanese remarks.

In the end, Governor Kim expressed regret, but it is noteworthy how to solve the local issues twisted by this remark.
