Chrystia Freeland succeeds Bill Morneau as Minister of Finance

Chrystia Freeland became the first woman to hold the post of finance minister on Tuesday. The one who retains her role as Deputy Prime Minister was sworn in at a ceremony at Rideau Hall.

Dominic LeBlanc succeeds him as Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, who was previously President of the Privy Council.

While his government remains entangled in the WE Charity affair, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also plans to prorogue the current parliamentary session in order to start afresh in October.

This procedure would ensure that the current session is wiped out with a view to starting a new one this fall, with a Speech from the Throne and the tabling of a budget or an economic update.
