Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for the first time considered the incident of Petito’s death as a murder case after finding the body of his lover, Brian Laundrie, who had been wanted by the police for the past few weeks.
Before being found dead, Petito was reported missing by his family last September.
The following is the chronology of the Petito murder case.
June 2021
The 22-year-old went missing when she and Laundrie were on vacation exploring the US in Petito’s white 2012 Ford Transit van.
According to North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison, Petito and Laundrie started their holiday trip last June.
They plan to go to the US West Coast to visit the national parks there.
Petito diligently uploads photos of his travels and vacations on his Instagram account.
“He (Petito) also kept in touch with family members during their trip. However, communication suddenly cut off around the end of August,” Garrison was quoted as saying. CNN.

At the time, Petito and Laundrie were in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, authorities said.
Moab, Utah, police officers ran into Petito and Laundrie on their way around August 12.
The police even saw that they were in some kind of fight. Officers even concluded that Petito and Laundrie were involved in a physical fight at the time.
“However, both the man and the woman said they were in love and were engaged and getting married,” said Eric Pratt, a Moab police officer who passed the couple.
