Bandung, CNN Indonesia

A Koran teacher with the initials S alias Ustad SS allegedly committed abuse sexual to dozens of students in Pangalengan, Kabupaten Bandung. Currently, the 39-year-old man has been arrested by the Bandung Police Satreskrim.

Bandung Police Chief, Kombes Kusworo Wibowo, said that the disclosure of the case began with the victim’s report around the beginning of March 2022.

Receiving the report, the Bandung Police immediately went into the investigation and finally arrested the suspect.

“After an investigation, the Bandung Police Satreskrim finally succeeded in uncovering cases of alleged sexual abuse of 12 minors by unscrupulous teachers in Pangalengan,” said Kusworo at a press conference at the Bandung Police Headquarters, Monday (18/4).

The suspect SS is a Koran teacher who teaches at a religious education institution in Pangalengan. SS is known to be married and has three children.

Kusworo explained that since 2017 no victim has dared to report the depraved behavior of the SS. Until finally, on March 1, one of the victims reported it.

“Starting from the report of one of the victims, we then carried out an in-depth investigation until we were able to secure the suspect,” he said.

Kusworo said that the victims of the suspect SS were 12 people with the average age of the victims being underage.

“The average age of the victims is all underage, the age range is 10 to 11 years,” he said.

Kusworo explained, it is possible that the number of victims could increase. Given the actions the suspect has carried out for the last five years.

“Currently, only 12 victims have provided information. It is possible that other victims will report,” he said.

Kusworo explained, the modus operandi used by the suspect to deceive his victim was very diverse. First, deliberately giving class hours so that students study late.

At that time, the suspect invited students to spend the night. Then at night the sexual harassment was carried out.

“The second was carried out when asked to be taken home, stopped at a bathing place, and while bathing the act of sexual harassment was carried out,” said Kusworo.

The third mode is when following students to the bathroom and then committing sexual harassment.

For his actions, the suspect SS was charged with Article 82 of the Child Protection Act, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years with a minimum of 3 years and a fine of Rp. 300 million.

Meanwhile, the Advisor for the National Commission for Child Protection, Bimasena, stated that his party continues to guard the victims. From the time the victim’s parents reported it to Komnas, to the provision of trauma recovery.

“Currently we will coordinate with the PPA unit for trauma healing. Do not let this incident happen again, because the victim could become the perpetrator in the future,” he said.

To prevent this from happening again, Bima stated that awareness and concern from all components of society were needed, considering that this depraved behavior was difficult to eliminate because the punishments were light.

Thus, preventive efforts, especially all components of society and the government, must be aggressively issued warnings of sexual crimes.

“So, if asked why it continues, no matter how heavy the punishment will be, the perpetrators of the crime will not be deterred. Moreover, the punishment will be light,” he said.

However, Bima still appreciates the Bandung Police for being very responsive in following up on victims’ reports.

“This is clear evidence that the Bandung Police have responded quickly to reports from the public, no more than a week after the reports, immediately arrested the perpetrators,” he said.
