Christmas: neighbors save festival from fire victims | Regional

Meissen – Every look out of the window is a stab in the heart!

The Kunert family from Sörnewitz (Saxony) lost their beloved home in a fire. Now they are celebrating Christmas in a holiday apartment right across from the ruins.

It was November 18th, late in the morning. Tobias Kunert (37) remembers: “I was working in the garage when suddenly thick smoke and flames came out of the roof.” The roof structure of her lovingly renovated single-family house was burning brightly.

The car mechanic ran into the house, saved his wife Diana (33, hairdresser) and the three children Lena (6), Laura (2) and Benno (8 months) – and called the fire department. Then the family watched helplessly as everything was destroyed. Diana: “Only a closet, a desk and a few photo albums were saved.”

Fortunately, the insurance company pays them a vacation home as makeshift accommodation. Now the five Kunerts live in two rooms.

Your house: a total loss! Only the four outer walls remained. The approximately 300,000 euros for the reconstruction will probably be covered by the insurance. What caused the fire is still unclear. Experts assume a technical defect.

“The construction work is a glimmer of hope, and the neighbors,” says Diana Kunert. So far they have collected 1,600 euros in donations for the family – and handed over the money including the Christmas tree with letters of encouragement.

Diana Kunert: “We are so grateful for the help. Christmas will be beautiful this way. “
