Chovanec case: “It is inconceivable that I was not made aware of his death”, reacts Theo Francken

Theo Francken (N-VA) was State Secretary at the time of the death of Slovak national Jozef Chovanec.

SSaturday, we learned that the big boss of the aeronautical police, Danny Elst, must also take a step aside because of the case related to the death, in 2018, of a passenger at Charleroi-Brussels South airport (BSCA), after a strong police intervention. Earlier this week, the director general of the federal police, André Desenfants, also stepped down while an investigation was carried out.

This Sunday, Theo Francken reacted on Twitter: “I was State Secretary to the death of the Slovak man in Charleroi, @JanJambon

was Minister of the Interior. It is inconceivable that none of us was informed of the death (nor of Hitler’s salute). Elst receives disciplinary action. Well Named. But what about those around him? “.

Danny Elst received an order from the Commissioner General of the Federal Police. The head of the aeronautical police was indeed an officer on duty at the time of the facts and was aware of the arrest. Danny Elst operated just below Desenfants. The latter said he knew nothing about the intervention.

Danny Elst will be assigned from Monday an administrative function within the “resource management” service, the newspaper still reveals. It is not yet known who will replace him.
