Chinese telecommunications company Huawei Technologies donated food to a refugee camp in Lusaka, the Zambian capital.

This donation, paid to the Makeni Refugee Transit Center located on the outskirts of the Zambian capital, is worth more than $ 10,000, and includes mealie, sugar, rice and cooking oil.

Hansen He, public relations manager of Huawei Zambia, said his company was delighted to partner with the Home Office to make the donation.

Huawei believes that people who have food become productive members of society regardless of country, he said, adding that the donation was intended to meet the needs of refugees.

Home Secretary Stephen Kampyongo praised Huawei’s donation, saying it would complement the government’s efforts to meet the needs of refugees.

The government has encountered challenges in providing various essential services to refugees due to the complicated financial situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the official added.

The Zambian minister also said the donation comes at the perfect time for Christmas and New Year holidays, as these refugees have no relatives with whom to exchange gifts during the holiday season.
