Chinese Citizen Tells What It Feels Like COVID-19 Anal Swab: Very Shame

Jakarta

News about usage swab anal for testing COVID-19 has shocked the Chinese citizens. This method is more accurate than nose and throat swabs, although it is difficult for the recipient.

The surge in COVID-19 cases in several regions of China has made the government tighten testing protocols, especially for those who come from abroad. They are required to undergo four tests, namely blood tests, nose, throat and anal swabs.

“You take off your pants, lie down, then you can feel the cotton swab being put into the anus twice, which takes about 10 seconds,” one resident told Beijing News.

Another resident, Douyacai, a student who recently returned from South Korea, underwent an anal swab in Beijing on the 14th day of quarantine. In a post on Chinese social media, Douyacai said he was tested twice through the anal canal.

“Just an endless sense of shame. No other feelings. Good luck,” he said.

“It doesn’t hurt, but a great shame,”

Health experts have told Chinese state media CCTV that anal swabs are more accurate in detecting the coronavirus. They claim traces of the virus can last longer in the anus than in the respiratory tract.

The test is performed by inserting a cotton swab of about three to five centimeters into the rectum and twisting it several times. As with the nasal method, the swab is removed and placed securely into the sample container.

“The whole procedure takes about 10 seconds,” said China’s National Health Commission.

More than 1,200 students at his school in the southern district of Daxing and their close contacts were tested with the anal swab method, according to the Global Times.
