Chinese-Canadian pop star Chris Wu has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after being convicted of sexual offences.
A court in the Chinese capital Beijing has sentenced 32-year-old singer and actor Chris Wu of raping three women and mobilizing a number of people for gang sex.
Chris was arrested last year after being accused of grooming and raping a girl before 24 other victims revealed his rape to them.
The court said Chris should be deported, but deportation to China usually occurs after serving a prison sentence.
Beijing’s Chaoyang District Court on Friday sentenced Chris Wu to 11 years and six months in prison, after he was found guilty of raping three women at his home in 2020 “while they were drunk – they didn’t know or couldn’t resist.”
The Chinese star also received a one-year and 10-month prison sentence after being convicted of “bringing people together to have group sex,” according to the court.
The first to accuse Kris Wu was student Du Meizu, who said on social media last year that she met Kris two years ago when she was 17.
De Mezzo explained that she was invited to a party at Chris’ house, where she was pressured into drinking alcohol, before waking up the next day to find herself in her bed.
Chris has denied those claims, but at least 24 other victims have accused him of brutal behavior towards them.
Chris was accused of inviting women to karaoke parties where alcoholic beverages were served.
Chris Wu also faces a 600 million yuan (£69 million) fine for tax evasion. In this, the official Xinhua News Agency claims that Chris provided a fake trading account to hide the value of his real income.
Chris Wu was born in China, before gaining Canadian citizenship. He rose to prominence as a member of the South Korean boy band ‘Exo’ during the second decade of the new millennium.
Chris has become one of the most popular stars in China after building his business as a singer, actor, model and variety show judge.
And international firms have announced the suspension of their partnerships with Chris Wu, due to his court conviction. Including: the French Louis Vuitton, the Italian Bulgari and the German Porsche.
