BEIJINGChina suggested Japan in order to dispose of 1.25 million wastewater Fukushima nuclear to the United States (US). This suggestion was made after Washington supported Tokyo’s plan to dispose of radioactive waste water into the sea claiming it was safe because it had been treated.

In two tweet on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying reinforced Beijing’s rejection of Japan’s plan to dump more than one million tons of radioactive wastewater treated by the Fukushima nuclear reactor into the sea.

“Japan and the US claim that treated nuclear wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant complies with international safety standards and is even drinkable, so why don’t they keep the water for themselves? or maybe send it to the US ?, “Hua wrote as quoted from his Twitter account, @SpokespersonCHN, Wednesday (14/4/2021).

In making that suggestion, Hua posted a cartoon showing how nuclear waste will affect drinking water and human health.

Hua continued tweetby claiming it would be better to have an international assessment of the safety of Japan’s nuclear wastewater before anyone drinks it.

On Monday, Japan announced it would dump waste water from damage at its Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea in about two years. The plan, which has been widely reported to be Tokyo’s preferred option, has come under fire from neighbors Japan, China and South Korea.

On Tuesday, Beijing labeled Tokyo “utterly irresponsible” and called for consultations with neighboring countries and concerned parties.

South Korea also protested the decision. Seoul summoned the Japanese ambassador to protest the decision.

Last year, Greenpeace reported that the waste water from the Fukushima nuclear reactor was more dangerous than the Japanese government claimed to be safe.

Their publication is entitled “Stemming the tide 2020: The reality of the Fukushima radioactive water crisis“claims that treated water still contains dangerous levels of carbon-14, a radioactive substance that has the potential to damage human DNA.

The organization claims that the Japanese government has misrepresented nuclear wastewater as “treated water,” and has given the impression that radioactive tritium is the only radionuclide in the water.

More than 1 million tonnes of nuclear waste water have been collected and treated by Japanese authorities since the nuclear plant melted down in the shock of a massive earthquake and tsunami more than a decade ago.
