Prices for standard thermoplastics on the Chinese market developed unevenly in May 2022. The prices for polyethylene (PE)-LD, PE-LLD, PE-HD extrusion and blow molding types, PVC, high-impact polystyrene and polypropylene fell. The situation was different with the listings of PE-HD injection molding qualities, standard PS and PET. The relatively lower supply and higher raw material prices had an impact here.
Demand was extremely weak due to the restrictions on public life resulting from China’s zero-Covid policy. In addition, May is considered a weak season anyway. This is reported by the industry service Kunststoff Information (Bad Homburg) in the current online report.
In the coming weeks, prices for standard thermoplastics, with the exception of PVC, are expected to increase as the economic situation appears to be relaxing. In the meantime, a normalization of the supply is expected. The exception is PVC, which is readily available.
