China-Russia-Iran Hold Joint Military Exercises in Indian Ocean

As reported Reuters, Thursday (20/1/2022), a public relations official at the Iranian Armed Forces, Mostafa Tajoldin, told the news agency ISNA News Agency that the joint exercise, dubbed the ‘Marine Security Belt 2022’, will be held precisely in northern waters Samudra.

Tajoldin called the exercise the third joint military exercise held by the three countries.

Since taking office in July last year, Iran’s new President, Ibrahim Raisi, pursuing a ‘looking east’ policy to deepen ties with China and Russia.

In September last year, Iran joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization — the Central Asian security agency led by China and Russia.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, visited China last week. On Thursday (20/1) this week, Raisi met the President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
