China registers 31 new cases of covid; 25 of them local contagion

The China National Health Commission today announced the detection of 31 new positives of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 this Sunday, 25 of them by local contagion in Inner Mongolia (16), Beijing (5) and Shanghai (4).

The remaining six cases were found among travelers from abroad in the provinces of Fujian (2), Tianjin (1), Zhejiang (1), Guangzhou (1), and Guangxi (1).

China, which applies a severe “zero tolerance” policy towards the new coronavirus, has suffered in the last three months a wave of regrowth attributed to the omicron variant which has caused record numbers of infections not seen since the start of the pandemic in the first half of 2020.

The health authorities also informed today of the detection of 140 asymptomatic cases, 61 by local contagion, although Beijing does not count them as confirmed cases unless they show symptoms.

The total of this type of infections under observation is 5 thousand 265, of which 514 come from other territories.

The National Health Commission He also detailed that, until last local midnight, 257 patients were discharged after successfully overcoming covid-19.

According to the accounts of the institution, Since the start of the pandemic, 224,341 people have been infected in the countryof which 217 thousand 936 have managed to heal and 5 thousand 226 died.

To date, medical follow-up has been carried out on 4,126,178 close contacts with those infected, of which 126,500 remain under observation.
