China opens two sessions… The official opening of Xi Jinping’s 3rd term

China’s largest annual political events, the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the People’s Political Consultative Conference (PPPC), entered the official schedule on the 4th.

The National People’s Congress and the CPPCC are held at about the same time every year and are called ‘Two Sessions’.

The meeting of the National Committee of the Political Consultative Conference, the country’s highest policy advisory body, opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing at 3:00 pm on the 4th.

In his work report, President Wang Yang said that with President Xi Jinping as the core, significant achievements were made in responding to the complex international situation and various challenges.

The National People’s Congress, which is equivalent to the National Assembly, begins with an opening ceremony on the morning of the 5th and continues until the 13th.

At the opening ceremony of the National People’s Congress on the morning of the 5th, Premier Li Keqiang announced China’s major policy goals for the year, including China’s economic growth goals, through a government work report.

At the two sessions, the Prime Minister, Vice Premier, and Standing Committee members will be officially appointed to assist President Xi Jinping, who confirmed his third consecutive term at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in October last year.

Li Chang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Central Committee, has been appointed as the second prime minister.

Prime Minister-nominee Li Chang is facing a number of challenges in the aftermath of the ‘zero corona’ policy that has lasted for the past three years.

Last year, China’s economy grew just 3%, far below the government’s target of 5.5%.
