China is also doing money in quarantine to prevent the spread of coronavirus

People’s Bank of China is now going to temporarily remove old banknotes from circulation, which are then disinfected. Money from the regions with the highest contamination rate is cleaned with ultraviolet radiation or by heating. It is then stored for at least fourteen days, until it is distributed again. In less affected areas, the money is taken out of circulation for a week.

Money from hospitals separately

Local banks have been asked to keep money separate from hospitals and markets. Also, banknotes may not be exchanged between provinces and cities with a high contamination rate.

The central bank also announced that 600 billion yuan (79.3 billion euros) of new banknotes will be put into circulation in the Chinese province of Hubei and the capital Wuhan. That area counts as the epicenter of the virus. More than 64,000 cases of infection have already been detected and nearly 1,400 patients have died from the consequences.

Less cash

The use of cash has declined in recent years due to the rise of electronic payments, but older people in particular still prefer cash.

Viruses cannot survive outside the body

Whether the coronavirus can indeed be spread via banknotes is questionable. Coronaviruses spread through humans and animals. They cannot survive well outside the body. Certainly not on cardboard, packaging material or other items, reports the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).

“Other coronaviruses do not spread in this way and we have no reason to believe that this is different for this new coronavirus (COVID-19).” So you can’t get infected if you order a package from China.
