In 2002, Lu Shengli joined FAW after graduating from the College of Automotive Engineering of Jilin University and became a Hongqi Automobile R&D engineer. At that time, FAW was facing transition pains. Until 2016, the annual sales of Hongqi vehicles were only 4,815, which was not as good as the monthly sales of a model of a mainstream joint venture brand.

Reform and innovation start with mechanism innovation. In November 2016, the Hongqi brand was spun off from FAW Car Co., Ltd. and operated directly by the headquarters of FAW Group. “Using the power of the entire group to build the Hongqi brand.” said Hou Guozheng, head of vehicle development at the FAW Research and Development Institute.

Since then, FAW Group has focused on reshaping the organizational structure and established a product planning and project department, a general research institute, a model design institute, a new energy development institute, and an intelligent network development institute to form a research and development system; the global research and development headquarters with Changchun as the red flag brand , And set up branches at home and abroad to form a global R&D layout.

After five years of hard work, in May 2013, a Hongqi sedan named “H7” was officially launched. Hou Guozheng introduced that the main technical indicators of the “H7” vehicle are domestically advanced, and some of its performance has reached international standards.

Today’s FAW Group adheres to a global R&D layout, makes full use of domestic and foreign superior talents, superior resources, and superior environment to further promote technological innovation in the fields of new platforms, new intelligence, new energy, new power, new materials, and new processes. In the past five years, FAW Group has filed a total of 8,220 patents, of which 2,927 were filed in 2019, a year-on-year increase of 100.8%. In the first 11 months of this year, FAW has sold 3.398 million vehicles, an increase of 7.7% year-on-year.
