Beijing – A total of 45 people, including 28 officials, were held responsible for the explosion of a gold mine that left ten people dead and one missing in the city of Qixia in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong, The New China news agency reported on Tuesday.

The accident was caused by the illegal use and storage of explosives and the improper operation of the mine pane, according to a report by the investigation team.

The report also notes that the company that owns the gold mine and the city of Qixia covered up the accident and delayed its announcement, notes Chine Nouvelle.

A total of 22 miners were stranded underground following the mine explosion on January 10 in Qixia. Eleven of them were rescued after being trapped for two weeks, and one person remains missing. The accident caused direct economic losses of approximately $ 10.5 million.
