Childhood: Payerne doubles its childcare capacity – News Vaud & Regions: Nord vaudois-Broye

“These additional places were quickly filled, proof that this meets the needs of the population of the region of Payerne and Corcelles, who was the poor relation in Broye in this matter.” Municipal in charge of Buildings in Payerne , Julien Mora is delighted to be able to present the new daycare center in the city this Saturday. Located on the ground floor of the rue de Guillermaux 3 and 5 buildings, the Les Passerelles child life center opens its doors from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

While the former La Courte Échelle daycare center could accommodate a maximum of 34 toddlers a stone’s throw away, at rue de la Boverie, the new Payernois reception center opened its doors on August 26 with a capacity of 44 places, or 10 more adults. Since January, five additional places are available in nurseries and seven new trotters are already planned. Out of a maximum of 66 places in these new premises (15 babies, 21 baby walkers and 30 adults), 56 will be in operation, not counting the 34 inaugurated in 2018 at the other site in Corcelles-près-Payerne.

“The facilities have been designed according to the ages and development of the children and the site is equipped with an independent dining hall, whereas previously meals were organized in the rooms”, presents Valérie Martin, educator responsible for the Payerne site. A total of 16 trained educators, representing 11.55 FTEs, and 8 trainees and apprentices supervise the little Broyards in Payerne.

In November 2018, the Municipal Council had approved a credit of 1.22 million francs for this move, now offering 504 m² of floor space to the daycare, as well as 185 m² of garden. Including rent, amortization and interest, the annual cost will be in the order of 94,400 francs, an amount considered exorbitant, which had caused some elected officials.
