Child injured after suspected mountain lion attack at Santa Clara County nature preserve

A nature preserve in Santa Clara County is closed Sunday after a child was injured in a suspected mountain lion attack, according to officials with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Officials provided first aid to a child who was injured around 10 a.m. while walking on a trail at the Rancho San Antonio County Park and Open Space Preserve. The child was around 2 miles away from the main parking area when they were attacked by what officials suspect to be a mountain lion. The suspected mountain lion was scared away by adults who were with the child, officials said.Officials are still investigating and trying to positively identify the animal involved. The park is expected to reopen when the investigation is finished and officials deem it is safe to do so.
