The match Italy vs Bulgaria in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers was held at the Artemio Franchi, Friday (3/9/2021) early morning WIB. This will be Italy’s first match since the Euro 2020 final.

Italy opened the scoring in the 16th minute through Federico Chiesa. He stabbed in from the right and worked a one-two with Ciro Immobile before firing from the front of the box. Chiesa’s kick ball could not be anticipated by the Bulgarian goalkeeper.

Bulgaria equalized in the 39th minute. Atanas Iliev beat Gianluigi Donnarumma with a shot from close range, which also made the score 1-1 until the match was over.

The goal in this match was Chiesa’s fourth with the Italian senior team. He previously contributed two goals when Italy won the Euro 2020.

Chiesa’s name is very sticking in the football event between European countries. His actions have even surpassed his father, Enrico Chiesa.

The Juventus winger was able to become man of the match twice, namely against Austria in the last 16 and against Spain in the semifinals.

Although still able to maintain his quality with Gli Azzurri, Chiesa was disappointed to fail to win against Bulgaria. This is also the first draw for Italy after winning the previous three qualifying matches without conceding a goal.

“I was happy with the goal, but we should have won and we didn’t. Now we have to go to Switzerland and play like we always do,” Chiesa told Rai Sport.

“It would have been better to take the three points home, we wanted to win and we have to focus on the next game now. We played good football and we had great ideas, we proved it tonight.”

“The first game of the season is always the most difficult. We drew against Bosnia one year ago, but as we progressed we proved that we can achieve good results,” he stressed.
