Chief Minister’s letter to the Prime Minister seeking immediate intervention in the action of airlines charging exorbitant fares. Companies charge higher fares during festivals. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan pointed out in the letter that passengers including those to the Gulf cannot afford it.
The letter demanded that the central government should hold talks with the airlines to curb overcharging by airlines during peak periods. Air ticket prices charged from Gulf countries to Kerala have increased more than three times in the last two months. In the letter, Pinarayi Vijayan said that increasing ticket prices during festival seasons and school vacations creates hardship for common passengers.
Migrant workers are forced to pay for plane tickets with the little savings they earn after working abroad for months. The Chief Minister also pointed out that the airline operators have not yet responded favorably to the requests of the Kerala government and migrant organizations to revise the fares in this situation.

Meanwhile, the state government has decided to operate additional/chartered flights at reasonable airfares for low-income workers in the Gulf countries during festive seasons and holidays. Foreign/Indian aircraft operators can operate additional/charter flights from the Gulf to India only after obtaining approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Pinarayi Vijayan, in a letter to the Prime Minister, also requested the Ministry of Civil Aviation to issue necessary approvals for additional/charter flight operations booked by the state government from the second week of April 2023. .
