CHICAGO, Ill. (October 27, 2025) - The Chicago State Cougars menS basketball team is poised for a breakout season, according to the Northeast Conference (NEC) preseason Poll released today. Projected to finish sixth, the program is gaining recognition as it builds toward sustained success within the competitive conference.
The NEC head coaches’ poll places Chicago State ahead of Saint Francis, Wagner, Le Moyne, and New Haven, signaling a shift in perception for the Cougars under the direction of Head Coach Landon Bussie. LIU topped the poll with a unanimous vote, followed by CCSU, Stonehill, mercyhurst, and FDU completing the top five. This ranking reflects the team’s progress and sets the stage for a compelling 2025-26 campaign.
“Being picked sixth shows that our peers recognize the strides we’ve made,” Bussie stated. “We’re hungry to prove ourselves and climb even higher.”
Chicago State will blend experienced players with new talent as they navigate a challenging NEC schedule.The Cougars aim to establish themselves as a force in the mid-major landscape and build momentum throughout the season.
The team’s season opener is scheduled for Monday, November 3, at 7 p.m.on the road against DePaul.
