Cheshire Residents Charged with Animal Cruelty After 19 Animals Removed from Home
Cheshire, CT – Three cheshire residents have been arrested and charged with animal cruelty following an investigation that led to the removal of 19 animals from a Cook Hill Road residence, according to the Cheshire Police Department.
The investigation began on June 17th after Cheshire Animal Control received a complaint regarding the living conditions, grooming, and hygiene of several cats at the property.When animal control officers were unable to contact the residents to assess the animals’ welfare, the case was escalated to the Cheshire Police Department.
Police reported receiving limited cooperation from the residents. On August 1st, detectives, in collaboration with multiple municipal animal control agencies, local and state health departments, and the Cheshire Fire Department, executed a search and seizure warrant at the residence.
During the search, authorities seized 18 cats and one dog, along with other unspecified items. The seized animals were provided with care while the investigation continued.
Based on the findings of the investigation, arrest warrants were obtained for three individuals. The suspects – a 42-year-old woman, a 71-year-old woman, and a 74-year-old man - turned themselves in to police on Wednesday.
Each of the three individuals faces 19 counts of animal cruelty. They have been released on bond and are scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on September 24th, as stated by the cheshire Police Department.
