Here is one of the questions from the last web meeting:
Hey Benny!
I took a look at used Mercedes S-Class (1999-2005 models) this weekend.
The idea is that it could be a “Sunday car”. There are more than I thought for sale, some also with the V8 engine.
Many of these seem well maintained.
The question to you is whether or not I should let it go, because of possible problems and expenses. Or if this can actually be a nice and nice car for sunny days this summer?
Benny replies:
Hi!
The Mercedes S-Class has always fascinated me. It is one of the world’s most ambitious car models – an innovator in both comfort and technology.
But the price makes us mortals have to settle for the dream. At least like new. In the second hand market, however, there are many opportunities.
The model you have looked at is the one called the W220. It came in 1999 and was a part of 2006. On this model finds some of the slightly sporty elegance of the second generation (W126) S-class. It’s my personal S-Class favorite.
After the unsuccessful effort with the slightly bulky third generation (W140), the S-Class was now back in a brand new and significantly slimmer version. With the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8 as the closest competitors, they really had no choice.
The more – the better
Here we really talk car you can fool next door. The lines have withstood the tooth of time well. If it is well kept and glossy in the paintwork, there are hardly as many non-car experts as you think you will get in a 20 year old car for 30,000 kroner …
Because that’s where the prices start. It should be said that then it is certainly not the best copies you get.
