Donald Trump Jr. Mourns Charlie Kirk, Calling Him “Like a Little Brother”
utah state University was the site of a tragic shooting on Wednesday that claimed the life of Charlie Kirk, 31. Witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot at the event, and despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Kirk succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have taken a person of interest into custody, identified through surveillance footage from around the time of the shooting. Their name has not yet been released. A second individual was also arrested for obstruction following the incident.
Kirk is survived by his wife and two young children: a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son.
The loss has prompted an outpouring of grief, including a lengthy and emotional statement from Donald Trump Jr. He described Kirk as “like a little brother” to him and “a true inspiration to millions around the world.”
“This isn’t my strong suit and I don’t even know how to begin to put into words the loss I am feeling right now over the assassination of Charlie Kirk,” Trump Jr. wrote. He continued, praising Kirk’s courage, principles, faith, and devotion to his family. “He fought tirelessly for this country, for the values that make America great, and for the next generation.”
Trump Jr. emphasized Kirk’s impact on young people, stating his work “helped my father win the presidency” and “changed the direction of this nation.” He asserted that Kirk was not a threat, but rather “a powerful messenger of truth” who was targeted for his effectiveness.
“This loss is absolutely devastating – not only for Erika and the kids, but for our country,” Trump Jr. concluded. “We’ve lost a leader, a fighter, and a man whose character and conviction were rare.” He pledged to honor Kirk’s memory by continuing his fight and carrying forward his legacy of faith, truth, and courage, stating, “Rest in peace, brother. You will be missed more than words can ever say – but your legacy will never be forgotten and we will keep fighting the good fight.”
