Charley Hull clinched her third LPGA Tour title Sunday at the Queen City Championship, securing victory with a dramatic birdie on the final hole after her rival, Ariya Thitikul, faltered. The 29-year-old english golfer finished at 20-under narrowly defeating Thitikul and taking home the $300,000 (£221,340) prize.
Hull’s win marks a breakthrough moment after two consecutive runner-up finishes, solidifying her position among the LPGA’s elite. The Queen City Championship, held at TPC River’s Bend, saw a tight contest throughout the final round, with the lead changing hands multiple times before Hull’s decisive performance. This victory earns Hull valuable points in the Race to the CME Group Tour Championship and further elevates her world ranking.
Both Hull and Thitikul completed the final round with a four-under 68.Hull entered the final day with a two-stroke advantage, but the lead seesawed throughout the afternoon. Thitikul narrowed the gap to one stroke on the 10th, and both players birdied the 11th. A bogey by Hull on the 13th allowed Thitikul to briefly take the lead with a birdie on the 14th. Hull responded with a birdie on the 16th, only to follow it with another bogey on the 17th, giving Thitikul a final advantage that she couldn’t maintain.
The drama culminated on the 18th green, where Thitikul missed both her birdie attempt and a crucial par putt that would have forced a playoff. Hull then calmly sank her birdie putt to seal the victory.
Also making a strong showing was 21-year-old Hailey Woad, who carded a six-under 66 on sunday, finishing at 18-under overall.
