Nico Hulkenberg (Racing Point) caused a collision at the beginning and finished eleventh, the Chinese Formula 2 driver Guanyu Zhou (Renault) won ahead of Mercedes substitute driver Stoffel Vandoorne (Belgium) and Austrian Philipp Eng (Red Bull). Due to technical difficulties, the race only lasted 14 instead of the planned 28 laps.

There were technical problems with the British McLaren youngster Norris, who alongside Canadian Nicholas Latifi (Williams) was the only Formula 1 driver to start. Norris, who streamed the race on the Twitch platform, missed qualifying and was fifth after a race to catch up just before Latifi.

Due to the pandemic, Formula 1 has postponed the first seven races or has already canceled it completely.
