Changchun Zoo & Botanical Garden Draws Massive Crowds with “Journey to the West” Night Tour
Changchun, China – Tens of thousands of visitors flocked to the Changchun Zoo and Botanical Garden during the National Day holiday to experience “Journey to the West in the Light Shadow,” a nighttime performance series centered around the beloved Chinese literary classic. The event’s star attraction, a performer known as ”Hilarious Snow Cake Monkey” portraying Sun Wukong, has become a particular draw, captivating audiences of all ages.
The performances, which began daily at 4 p.m., feature over 70 themed acts including “Love Dream of the Women’s Country,” “Real and False Monkey King,” “You Come Be the Jade Emperor,” “Cui Lan Recruiting Kiss,” and the Girl Torch Ceremony of the tianzhu Country.
The popularity of the show was evident in the keen participation of attendees. Children were seen wearing Sun Wukong headdresses and chanting “Monday Sage Sun Wukong” during the performances. the open space and benches on stage were filled with tourists, with some even climbing trees for a better view, prompting staff to issue safety reminders.
Numerous visitors traveled meaningful distances to witness the show. Mr. Zhang,from Dalian,waited seven hours in line for a chance to interact with “Hilarious Snow Cake Monkey” and take a photo.A white-haired woman from Shanghai brought mooncakes as a gift for the performer.
Ms. Liu,visiting from Daqing City,Heilongjiang Province,shared that her mother,a lifelong fan of “Journey to the West,” specifically requested the trip to Changchun to see the “Hilarious Snow Cake Monkey” perform. “My mother likes to read classic books and film and television works of ‘Journey to the West,'” Ms. Liu said. “when she learned that ‘hilarious snow cake monkey’ played the role of Sun Wukong, she took a photo to realize her dream.”
