After vaccination with AstraZeneca, you run a slightly higher risk of nervous disorders. But the chance of this is even greater after a corona infection. About that writes NRC.
This is apparent from a huge study of data from 32 million Britons, which in Nature Medicine popped up. With AstraZeneca there is a slightly increased risk of Guillain Barré Syndrome (GBS) and facial paralysis (Bell’s paresis) in the first weeks after the injection. They are serious conditions, but people do recover after weeks to months. With the Pfizer vaccine, the risk of a brain haemorrhage is slightly higher. But the risk of these diseases is much higher after a corona infection.
There appeared to be 38 extra patients with GBS in every ten million people after the AstraZeneca shot, the scientists from Oxford University, among others, concluded. After a corona infection, there were 145 extra cases of illness per 10 million infections. Other neuroinflammatory diseases were also much more common after infection: there were 123 extra patients per 10 million with meningitis or spinal cord inflammation, and 163 extra cases per 10 million with muscle nerve disorders.
So it has once again been very clearly shown that it is much better to take a vaccine than to go through a corona infection.
