Latvian boxer Mairis Briedis after historical success did not stay in Munich and went home in the afternoon on a private flight. The plane of the superseries champion landed in Riga shortly before 3 pm, where the winner was already waiting for the relatives. –

“We have brought this trophy home,” said Briedis after arriving at LTV, saying that he had not slept at night and from time to time knuckled to his side to really understand that it is a reality.

The start of the final was spent in intelligence mode performed by both boxers. In the following rounds, Briedis stood out with his active and more versatile performance. The winner was determined by the decision of the judges, where two of the three judges gave Briedis a convincing victory with 117: 111. The third scorecard announced a draw, which did not affect the overall outcome.

The champion of the superseries himself did not really understand the decision of the third judge, but he learned that the judge would receive a reprimand for incompetence. “But we have won – that’s the main thing,” the boxer added.

Briedis left the final series of the superseries with the trophy of Muhammad Ali, the belt of the IBF champion and the belt of the magazine “The Ring”. After the fight, Briedis discussed the next steps of his career with the manager. The boxer did not rule out that there may be a plan to move to the next – super heavy weight category.

Wider celebrations in the history of Latvian sports will not be one of the most valuable achievements yet, because the next ten days Briedis and his team will have to be in self-isolation at home.
