PALANGKARAYA, PROKALTENG.CO– Chairperson of Commission III DPRD Central Kalimantan Province, Hj.Siti Nafsiah, asked the District/City Regional Government (Pemda) of Central Kalimantan Province, to focus on paying attention to rabies cases. And able to improve preventive efforts against rabies.

According to the people’s representative from the Golkar party, rabies is dangerous for health, if it is handled slowly it can cause death. For people who have been bitten by an animal whose HPR or rabies virus has been detected.

“To the local government to focus their attention on this rabies problem. Moreover, I heard that in South Barito Regency, rabies has been declared an extraordinary event (KLB). This is of course a warning also for other regions, that rabies cannot be underestimated,” he said recently.

He also assessed. Currently socialization of rabies is still minimal. Even though socialization is a very important form of early warning. Through this, more and more people will be educated about the prevention and treatment of rabies.

“Obviously the socialization provided does not only focus on how to treat and prevent pets from rabies. However, also how to do first aid after being bitten by a rabid animal. Moreover, rabies-transmitting animals such as dogs are common in Central Kalimantan. Especially in villages that are far from health care facilities,” he said.

The legislator in charge of People’s Welfare (Kesra) added that socialization and education are very important even in rural areas. Don’t let there be victims first, then there will be extra and massive socialization and education, it would be better to be vigilant from now on.

Then, Hj. Siti Nafsiah revealed that public awareness is also important. To routinely check the health condition of their pet dogs. This aims to maintain the health of the pet dog and not contract rabies.

“Remembering that some people not only keep dogs as pets, but also as an alternative to food. We do not forbid people from consuming dogs, but we also need to pay attention to the health of these animals, both for personal consumption, for sale and even for maintenance,” he explained.

On the other hand, he suggested not to focus on just one health issue, but that rabies also needs full attention from the local government, especially in areas where outbreaks have been declared (South Barito Regency). (rin)
