Cessna Citation Crashes Near Washington, Virginia After NORAD and F-16s Intercept Plane

Details: The publication notes: it remains unclear whether the plane violated restricted airspace near Washington, or there was an emergency on board, but the official added that the F-16s did not shoot down the plane, and that it is typical for the Federal Aviation Administration to call fighter jets if someone commits dangerous flight.

According to the US Continental North American Aerospace Defense Command, the pilot of the crashed civilian aircraft did not respond when the F-16 fighters attempted to make contact.

F-16 fighters were “allowed to move at supersonic speeds.”

In addition, the F-16s used flares “in an attempt to get the pilot’s attention.”

As a result, a civilian Cessna 560 Citation V aircraft was intercepted by NORAD fighters and crashed.

The plane was carrying four people who had overshot the planned destination 315 miles before the crash, people familiar with the investigation said.

On Sunday evening, the Virginia State Police said the search was still ongoing.
