Céspedes to make minor league debut

The Chicago White Sox assigned Yoequi Cespedes, the team’s No. 2 prospect, to Class A Alta Winston-Salem on Saturday for his minor league debut.

The 23-year-old outfielder, the younger brother of gunner Yoenis Céspedes, defected while playing for the Cuban national team in a 2019 Canadian-American Association tournament. Although he was eligible to sign with a major league team in March 2020, Cespedes spent additional time training with his older brother and signed with Chicago for $ 2.05 million. The exchange was announced on January 15.

Céspedes posted a .287 / .351 / .415 line in the Cuban National Series and went 95-24 with six doubles in 27 games for the national team in two years in the Can-Am league. The White Sox plan to develop him as a center fielder.
