César Duarte is detained in Florida, United States

MEXICO CITY.

The Office of International Affairs of the United States Department of Justice informed officials of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) that the former Governor of Chihuahua, César Duarte, was detained in the city of Miami, State of Florida, by the the US Marshals Service.

Within the next 72 hours of arrest, according to preliminary and not yet official information, the defendant would be presented before the Federal Court of the Southern District of Florida, where his rights and the crimes for which he is required by the government of Mexico.

The arrest warrant for extradition purposes was issued by a New Mexico federal magistrate in the United States.

The government of Chihuahua presented to the then Attorney General of the Republic, in 2018, the investigation folders and the arrest warrants that it had until then against César “D”, for various crimes.

Throughout that year, the then Attorney General’s Office, in the previous administration, kept the case inactive.

Given the relevance of the matter and in order to avoid impunity, in 2019, the current Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) began a joint and coordinated work with the Attorney General of the State of Chihuahua in order to prepare and submit a request for extradition that meets all the requirements of US law.

On December 18 of that same year, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic requested the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to process Duarte’s formal request for extradition before the US government.

It will be in the next few hours when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs formally request the extradition of the former governor.

NIETO APPLAUDS CAPTURE

The director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Santiago Nieto Castillo, applauded the capture of the former governor of Chihuahua, César Duarte Jáquez, carried out yesterday in Miami, Florida.

On his Twitter account, he congratulated Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon for the extradition procedure of César Duarte.

The anti-laundering prosecutor asserted that the capture shows that “nobody is above the law.”

Protection is over: Corral

The Governor of Chihuahua, Javier Corral Jurado, thanked the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, for the efforts that led to the capture for the purpose of extradition of former Governor César Duarte Jáquez.

He thanked and acknowledged “the political will of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to finalize the extradition of this fugitive from justice in Chihuahua; to the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero, and to Chancellor Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, for having complied with the law and with the Extradition Treaty in a timely and committed manner in the fight against corruption. ”

The former Chihuahua president was arrested yesterday in Florida, United States. In this regard, and hours after the announcement of the arrest of Duarte Jáquez, Governor Corral Jurado said that the capture of the former president is a triumph of the people of Chihuahua, of his demand for justice, in the face of blatant corruption that led him to buy ranches, houses and even exotic animals, that he could not have acquired with his own resources and that his protection was over.

He assured that the Chihuahua Prosecutor’s Office has verified that César Duarte Jáquez built a wide network of political corruption and protection with cash deliveries.
