In the country, the main cause of cancer death in women is cervical cancer, followed by breast cancer, so it is essential that all women attend their check-ups, especially if they have a family history of these diseases.

Dr. Héctor Berastain Merino, director of the Alfredo Piazza de EsSalud Oncology Center, pointed out that during the pandemic four specialized centers were implemented in Lima and Callao (Piazza, Larco, Arenales and Metropolitano) to detect early some type of cancer among the insured population .
He said that only in the COP Piazza, during 2020 approximately 18,000 visits were carried out, between specialized consultations and procedures and so far this year more than 8,000 insured persons were treated, benefiting 26,000 patients in total.
Since August 2020, EsSalud, at the initiative of the executive president of EsSalud, Fiorella Molinelli, has implemented four preventive cancer centers to attend more than 24 thousand monthly visits, including consultations, preventive check-ups, procedures and recovery actions.
These centers have high-tech equipment such as X-rays, Mammography, Densitometry, Ultrasound1, Ultrasound 2, which will allow a timely diagnosis and treatment for the prevention of breast, colon, cervix, gastric, prostate and skin cancer, among others.

The director of the COP Piazza said that the consultations with the highest demand are those of Gynecology and Mastology for the ruling out of cervical cancer and breast cancer, reaching 2,629 between 2020 and 2021, of which 10% were positive cases.
Reported that the screening tests are performed through specialized medical consultation, Pap test, transvaginal or pelvic ultrasound and mammograms.

Before entering the medical consultation, all patients undergo a Covid-19 screening, which in case of being positive they are given their medicines and sent to rest. If the result is negative, they proceed to care, where they will receive preventive counseling and specialized medical consultation, and then, on the doctor’s instructions, go on to the respective diagnostic aid tests.
