OnePlus 8 Pro: Video shows 120 Hertz mode
In the upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro, the Chinese manufacturer will be the first OLED display with a 120 Hertz mode can be used. The increased refresh rate is said to make scrolling much more pleasant and to eradicate mini stutters as much as possible. In the current generation of mobile phones from OnePlus the image can be updated 90 times per second. Therefore, the video now shown by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau causes misunderstanding on Twitter, since only a comparison between 120 Hertz and 60 Hertz is shown.
Here is the video :
The comparison with 60 Hertz lags, since the smartphones recently published by OnePlus all already have a 90 Hertz mode. A lower refresh rate was found on the OnePlus 7, which is already over at 60 Hertz.
From a marketing perspective, it obviously makes sense if Pete Lau would rather compare 120 Hertz with 60 Hertz – the difference is clearly more visible. A comparison like this is not really fair, as it is among other things Max J. from AllAboutSamsung.de responds.
It remains unclear whether the OnePlus 8 (without Pro addition) will also be equipped with such a mode. The manufacturer could do without 120 Hertz in the standard version to present the high refresh rate as a unique feature of the OnePlus 8 Pro. However, it is also clear that a high Hertz rate consumes more energy. The battery must grow with it in any case.
The current OnePlus 7T Pro ends after 90 Hertz. We have more about the mobile phone here in the video for you:
OnePlus 8 Pro: display makes cell phones more expensive
Since OLED displays with 120 Hertz mode are a new technology that will only be found in some flagships in 2020, the price of the OnePlus 8 Pro is likely to be higher than that of the previous models. The OnePlus 7T Pro went on sale in October 2019 for 759 euros, while the OnePlus 8 Pro is currently expected to cost around 800 euros.
