CEO of UZ Brussel Marc Noppen after a fuss about his cold … (Brussels)

/ Brussels –

Marc Noppen has again tested negative for the corona virus today. The CEO of the UZ Brussel received quite a bit of criticism after he was on the television program ‘The appointment’ where he admitted to presenter Bart Schols that he suffered from his annual (light) cold and had not tested himself for several days. “Of course you always have to be careful, but I had enough valid reasons to believe that I am not infected with the corona virus.”

“People who have gotten angry don’t know the truth. I would never sit down with a fresh infection. I have been walking around with that fall for a week, I was very confident that I knew the true cause of my hoarse voice. Don’t forget that I have known myself for 60 years and especially have 25 years of pulmonary art experience ”, answers Marc Noppen when asked why he can be so sure that he only has a mild spring cold and no corona.

For those who have little confidence in his self-knowledge and his judgment as a doctor, he immediately adds the following: “I had myself tested last week, immediately after I got that runny nose and some sore throat. I will still be the CEO of a hospital and here we do not want to run any risk of a super spreader. That test then turned out to be negative. I also had no problems with loss of smell and taste, fever, coughing and shortness of breath and that has not changed since then. ” He also points out that his corona app is still green and he did not have any risk contact.

Can we all just keep going to work if we think we’re going through our spring cold? Noppen advises people who have not studied to be a doctor and therefore cannot diagnose themselves like him to visit the doctor when in doubt. “Make sure to always wear a mouth mask.”

After the fuss, Marc Noppen had no choice but to have himself tested. “I donate the cost of the test, which is actually intended for patients and not for asymptomatic CEOs, to a charity intended for our employees. They will be able to use the money, I’m afraid … “
