Celebration of International Asteroid Day

This year, Morocco – a country renowned for its meteorites – celebrates this Day through a series of webinars organized jointly by Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI), the National Committee for the Dissemination of Astronomy NOC-IAU Morocco ( from the International Astronomical Union), the ATTARIK Foundation, the Oukaimeden Observatory of the Cadi Ayyad University of Marrakech, the CITI Association, and the Arab Astronomical Society.

“Our goal is to educate the general public about asteroids, the dangers of a possible impact of an asteroid with our planet, the preventive measures that humanity has already put in place to prevent such a risk and the efforts to provide to minimize any danger of any impact of an asteroid on our planet ” explains Dr. Hassan DARHMAOUI, Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering of Akhawayn.

It is therefore from July 29 to 3, 2020, that several virtual meetings will bring together several speakers and national and international specialists in the subject. “In addition to webinars on rich, diverse and exciting subjects, this meeting also provides sky observations that the general public can follow live on the Teams platform of Al Akhawayn University and on the club’s social networks. AUI, ATTARIK foundation, and NOC-IAU Maroc astronomy, ”said Al Akhawayn University in a press release.
