The season is over. FC St.Gallen is runner-up. And yet the interest in the end of the season press conference was huge. The most important question has arisen since yesterday’s game against YB when Cedric Itten was searched in vain on the match sheet. Does he leave the aspens? FCSG President Matthias Hüppi burst this bomb right at the start of the:

“Cedric Itten will leave us.”

For the time being, however, Hüppi did not want to say where the path of the 19-time goal scorer leads. The contract negotiations are in the final stages. «And as long as there is no signature, we cannot reveal anything yet. Now it is clear: Itten is moving to the Glasgow Rangers. He signed a four-year contract with the traditional Scottish club. The clubs have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.

Farewell after YB game

During the press conference, the question arises: Is Itten an isolated case or is there a big sale now? Players were said goodbye on Tuesday morning.

Hüppi names the following: Axel Bakayoko, Ermedin Demirovic, Moreno Costanzo and Jonathan Klinsmann. In the latter, a clause in the contract came into play, after which he had played for too few minutes, according to sports director Alain Sutter.

Hefti stays covered

But what about other service providers? A journalist wants to know from the FCSG captain Silvan Hefti who is present whether the phones of his advisors are not ringing around the clock. Hefti says it would be nice, of course, to arouse the interest of other clubs with his performance in order to finally answer the question succinctly:

“I don’t want to say more about it.”

With this answer, the speculations about further departures at FC St.Gallen will certainly not decrease. Rumors would of course be part of the football business, said sports director Sutter. The club adheres to facts.

Corona is still the dominant theme

In addition to the threat of further transfers, the corona virus dominated the press conference. From the start, Hüppi made it clear: “The most important thing is the audience. We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that fans can go back to the stadium. » Of course, in the end others would decide, but the FCSG could influence these decisions to a certain extent, for example with sophisticated protection concepts.

“At the same time, of course, we also use all the channels that we have on politics,” said Hüppi, before finally sticking to the club credo:

“We do everything we can influence”.

Everything else would have to be decided by the others. And with the others, Hüppi means the cantons and the federal government.
