CDU elects Matern von Marschall as a candidate for the federal election in 2021 – Schallstadt

With 92 percent of the vote, the CDU chose von Marschall as a direct candidate for the federal election. The 58-year-old has represented the constituency of Freiburg in Berlin since 2013, which also includes the municipalities in the district.

The CDU district associations Freiburg and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald elected Matern von Marschall as CDU candidate for the federal election in 2021 with almost 92 percent of the votes cast. The CDU announced this in a press release. At the nomination meeting in the Johann-Philipp-Glock Halle in Schallstadt, 56 of the 61 eligible voters would have elected Marshal, who was the only candidate who had represented the constituency of Freiburg in the German Bundestag since 2013. Now he is to win another direct mandate for his constituency, which consists of the city of Freiburg and the communities of the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district.

New technologies and infrastructure projects

“We were strong in the corona pandemic because we operated solidly in the past,” the 58-year-old is quoted as saying in the press release. Now it is a matter of making Germany and Europe “more resilient, more competitive and more defensive”. It is crucial to exploit the potential of new technologies such as hydrogen also regionally and to advance digitization.

Marschall announced that he would advance infrastructure projects such as the Freiburg city tunnel or the railway line between Freiburg and Colmar and, according to a press release, railed against the Greens, who wanted to stop some approved projects. “Our country needs a strong voice in Berlin,” said Marschall, who also demanded that the statutory debt brake should apply again from 2022 onwards.
