CDC Re-Updates Guidelines, Now Call COVID-19 Can Spread Through the Air

Jakarta

US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated the guidelines on its website and stated that the Corona COVID-19 virus can spread through droplets and be spread by air or aerosol transmission routes, even while breathing.

“Virus airborne, including COVID-19, is among the most contagious and easily spread, “wrote the site as seen detikcom, Monday (21/9/2020).

Previously, the CDC website wrote that COVID-19 was thought to spread between humans through close contact from droplet which is produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. Currently, the CDC website which was updated on Friday (18/9) states that COVID-19 can spread through droplets or aerosol particles.

“It is possible that COVID-19 can spread through airborne droplets and particles that are formed when someone with COVID-19 coughs, sneezes, sings, talks or breathes,” the CDC wrote.

The CDC also noted that there is growing evidence that COVID-19 droplets and particles can remain in the air and be inhaled by others less than 2 meters away, for example during choir practice, in restaurants, or fitness classes. In general, areas without proper ventilation or air circulation increase the risk of being exposed to COVID-19.

They also appealed to people to stay at home and suggested using an air purifier to help filter air from outside that is carried into the room.

For months, scientists noted the possibility of transmission of the Coronavirus through virus particles in the air, and encouraged all stakeholders, in this case the WHO, to acknowledge it.

“Although the specific research (Corona virus) is currently limited, the results available are consistent with the aerosolization of the virus from normal breathing,” according to the letter written by Dr. Harvey Fineberg, former dean of the Harvard School of Public Health CNN International.

“Currently available research supports the possibility that (COVID-19) could be spread via bioaerosol produced directly by the patient’s breathing,” the letter said.
