CD Projekt RED explains why it didn’t migrate Cyberpunk 2077 again or cancel the console versions

Michał Nowakowski, Vice President for Business Development at CD Projekt RED during the recent conversations with investors commented on the decision to release Cyberpunk 2077 on time, despite the abundance of technical problems.

Recall the developers planned to release Cyberpunk 2077 more 16 april, but in the end the release was postponed three times: first to September 17then on November 19 and finally on December 10.

The team spent additional time on polishing the project, but did not achieve the desired result: on all target platforms (especially on legacy consoles) the game suffers from technical flaws.

According to Novakovsky, CD Projekt RED is not “Experienced external or internal pressure” to release Cyberpunk 2077 on the specified date: the studio simply underestimated the scale of the problems of the console versions, since did not pay enough attention to them.

Simultaneously, Novakovsky admitted that “Purely theoretical” the studio could have limited itself on December 10 to the release of only the PC version, but there was no question of a complete rejection of editions for the consoles of the previous generation.

The fact is that Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5, Xbox Series X and S is currently running in backward compatibility mode, and just “Flip the switch” to transfer the game from the old generation to the new CD Projekt RED could not.

Previously developers apologized for the problems of versions for PS4 and Xbox One, they promised to release patches that correct the situation (major updates are scheduled for January and February) and even reminded the dissatisfied about the opportunity to issue a refund.
