CCIW Women’s Golf Poll: Illinois Wesleyan Favored to Win

Bloomington, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University is poised to contend​ for its fourth consecutive College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Golf Championship, beginning Monday at metamora Fields​ Golf ⁣club in Metamora,‌ Ill. ‌The Titans⁣ received eight first-place votes⁣ and 64 total points ⁢in the CCIW preseason ‌poll, signaling they are the favorites to secure ​the‌ conference crown.

The three-round, 54-hole⁣ tournament​ commences at 9 a.m. and marks the third ‍straight year‌ Metamora Fields ​has⁤ hosted the event. This year’s championship is the 30th CCIW ⁤Women’s Golf Championship overall. Illinois Wesleyan has dominated the‌ conference recently, winning eight ‍of the last ten titles since 2015, and three straight since 2022.

“We’re just playing the golf course,”⁢ Illinois Wesleyan head coach Craig onsrud said. “What ​happens at the finish happens at the‌ finish. Not putting too much pressure on what the ⁣event means… (and) just try to keep (the ⁤players) as loose⁣ as they possibly can. Don’t let the moment get to them.”

IWU senior Brooke Erhard ⁤echoed that sentiment, stating, “I think⁤ our mentality heading ‌into next ⁣Monday ⁣is just trusting the process. We’ve all just worked super ‌hard. Just moving ⁣forward and having faith in our abilities and confidence, I think is definitely going to be really critically important.”

Carthage ‍finished second in the poll with 53 points and one‍ first-place vote, followed by Augustana with 46 points. North Central (41) and Millikin (36)‌ round out the top five. Elmhurst (34), Carroll (27), Wheaton (12), and ⁢North Park (11) complete the nine-team CCIW ‍standings.

Founded in 1946, the CCIW includes Augustana College, Carroll University, Carthage College, Elmhurst University, Illinois Wesleyan University, Millikin University, North Central College, North Park University, and Wheaton College.
